June sock club yarn is ready!

Here's a black & white teaser photo for the June 2009 sock club yarn -

This is a new base yarn for us, too, so we're very excited!

Those of you who get this shipped, it's in the mail to you; and if you opted to pick it up, be sure to swing by the shop this week if you haven't already!

Apple Harvest is now available!

The December 2008 sock club colorway, Apple Harvest, is now available for sale (this also means that if you are in the club and the colors just weren’t for you, feel free to sell or trade for something else).

We should have it up on our website by the end of the week in both Superwash Merino and Merino/Bamboo sock. Both yarns come in 400-yard skeins; the Merino retails for $20 and the Bamboo for $22.

Here are a pair of Leyburn socks by Lynn -

And I really stretched mine out by combining them with another yarn for a slipped-stitch pair of socks; so much so that I also had enough for a pair of knucks -

We've made some executive changes to the colorway after feedback from club members; there is a little bit less dark green and dark brown, and about twice as much red.

Enjoy!

Soap for the holidays

OK, first off, please forgive me, because even though I am one of those people who hates to see Christmas things out before it's even Halloween-- oh, I just feel so guilty for this post. But these are so cute! I just can't stop myself from blogging about them!

We are going to have a Holiday soap this year-- Gingerbread Men! They come in two bases (Honey and Shea Butter) and two scents (Sleigh Ride, which smells like orange, peppermint and cloves; and Christmas Spice, which smells like orange and lemons, cinnamon, mocha, thyme and nutmeg). Right now they are only in the store, but we should have the soap updated and back on the website by the weekend!

Perhaps Today is a Good Day to Dye

Introducing the first wave of our hand-dyed house yarn, Perhaps Today is a Good Day to Dye.

What we have now are prototypes, running between 200-400 yards, in colors that we are planning on carrying. These are very limited, as this may not be the base yarn nor the dye that we settle on for good; but we wanted to start getting these out there to see if there was an interest and what the feedback might be like. Currently these are only available in-store, as we are working on a major website re-design; as soon as we finish that up these will be for sale online as well. If you are not local and are interested in making a purchase of this yarn, we'd be happy to ring you up over the phone-- just give us a call! We'd be happy to tell you what we have, in what yardage/colorway. Prices currently run between $13-$17, depending on the yardage. Once we settle on dyes and a base yarn, the prices will increase, but the put-up will be a steady 400 yards.

Friday Five: The Alphabet of Hanks (part two)

D is for Dye, of which we currently only have in kits. However, in the coming month (as our dye bar is almost complete) we will also be selling single bottles of colors. Excited, we are!

D is also for Dog Treats; one of our customers makes the best all-natural dog treats. If you're lucky, you're here on the right day because she'll bring by samples. All three of us have dogs, and all three of us have dogs that love these treats!

E is for Entrelac, one of our most popular classes so far!

F is for Fiber, used in both spinning and needle-felting. I'd say you would not believe the amount of fiber we go through, but if you've ever been in here after the first Friday of a spinning class, you might believe it. Fiber is addicting!

G is for Ginger's handspun, Holly Birch Fibers. Ginger has been spinning for more than 30 years, and I don't think there's a single fiber she has never spun. And of course all of it looks fantastic! Gives the rest of us something to aspire to.

Say "hello" to our little friend

Guess what we got the other day?

Say hello to my little friend

Not sure what it is...? We'll give you a hint:

windy windy!

Still haven't guessed...? Okay, one last hint (this one is what it makes):

blanks

Could this mean that the oft-rumored dye bar is close at hand...? Stay tuned to find out!

Holly Birch Fibers

In addition to my handspun, we are also now carrying Ginger's handspun, Holly Birch Fibers. These are also one-shots, so if you see something you like you'd best snatch it up!

Haldespun

Announcing my handspun line, HaldeSpun yarns; one-of-a-kind yarns in differing fibers, weights, and colorways. And hey, I have five cats and a dog, so watch out for the occasional stray pet hair (or as we call it in my house, "reinforcing thread").

Hanks Haldesoap

One thing that we'll be carrying at the shop - and that will be available only in the actual shop, and will not be offered on our internet store - is my handmade soap.

These four-ounce bars of soap (one basic, and one decorated with yarn and knitting needles) come in a variety of bases, including Shea Butter, Hemp, Aloe Vera, Honey, and Goat's Milk, and come in a variety of scents. Our major scents at the moment include Lavender, Woodland Pear, and Buttercream & Snickerdoodle. More scents will also be added in the future.
