FO: Learning Log Cabin

Learning Log Cabin

Yarn: Aslan Trends Glaciar Del Cielo and South West Trading Company Vickie Howell Craft in a variety of colors
Needles: US #3, four circular needles
Pattern: A few months ago I decided I wanted to learn the log cabin technique, and to see at the same time how it would work by keeping all four sides "live" rather than binding off and picking up stitches. I didn't have a pattern, I just sort of... talked to other people who have done log cabin and just... went at it. It didn't turn out badly, but it wasn't the most fun thing I've ever knit. I would probably recommend following a pattern if someone were to want to jump into this - and even though cotton doesn't weave in very well, I would also recommend for those, like me, with a short attention span, a washcloth over an afghan.

Del Sur restocks

We got a good-sized restock order of Aslan Trend's Del Sur, a bulky 100% Merino wool. You may remember we started carrying this right before Christmas, and it went like hotcakes - come in and get it soon, especially if purple is your favorite color - because we can barely keep that on the shelf!

You wanted chunky, we got chunky!

Del Sur, by Aslan Trends, is a slubby (thick and thin) yarn that comes in 87 yard put-ups and gets 2-3 stitches to the inch on a US 13-15 (it's $12.75/skein). We got eight colors in, and they are all fabulous. We're going to be working on redoing the website after Thanksgiving, so right now this isn't up on the site - but swing by or give us a call if you're not in the area and we'd be happy to tell you about what we have!

Introducing... Aslan Trends Santa Fe

New sock yarn! In the shop now!

new sock yarn

Santa Fe is the new kettle dyed fingering weight by Aslan Trends, an 85% Merino Wool/15% Polyamide that is in a 50g put-up of 180 yards. You might think that wouldn’t go far, which is why the sock photographed below fits a man sized 12 shoe. As you can see, that’s a lot of bang for the buck! How many bucks? $9/skein. We're working on getting individual photos up on the online shop as time allows today -- that'll be up on our website -- and we have all eleven colors.

New Aslan Trends colorways

Oh; the ball band says 6.5-7 sts/inch on a US 2-3; I’m a loose knitter and went with the US 2. This is a very springy yarn and has a fabulous twist to it.

Just in time for a freak cold spell!

It's supposed to get down to 34 degrees tonight - YES! I said 34! In Florida! In April!

But I don't care because look what I finished knitting over the weekend...

The Letter H

This took about five skeins of Aslan Trends Artesanal (4.5 of "Candy Apple" and about .10 of "Bright Gold"). So bring on the cold, because I have a new sweater to wear!

New cotton!

Aslan Trends has a new cotton out, and we have some in the shop!

Pima Clasico

Pima Clasico is a 100% washable Pima Cotton. The put-up is a little over 110 yards, a little under 2 ounces, and gets 5 sts/inch on a US 7 (it retails for $6). Here are the colors we have!
