Oh, Tencel Tape, I love you so!

We got a few new colors of Tencel Tape this week. Tencel Tape is 100% Tencel and comes in 2 oz/120 yds skeins. The suggested gauge is 5 sts/inch on a US #6 and it retails for $15.

Swing by the shop to look at this happiness in person, or give us a call (352.338.7222) if you need more information about it!

PS - Don't forget that we are happy to order any of the Prism yarns for you, whether they are ones that we currently have in stock or not. And while we wish we could stock every colorway of all the Prism yarns, we'd have to get a bigger store to do that - so don't be afraid to ask us to special order a colorway that we don't have in at the moment. And many of you already know this, but Prism will put together a kit for any of their patterns; contact us for pricing!

A sparkly box from Prism

We got a lovely box from Prism about a week ago, and while most of the Saki sold out before we could even get the new colors up on the website, we do have a nice supply of Tencel Tape and Indulgence that you can ogle!

Yarn tasting!

A few months ago, we held a yarn tasting courtesy of Tilli Tomas yarns (is there anyone who doesn't like silk?!). It was grand fun, as evidenced by my photos below, and we'd like to have another!

Tilli Tomas yarn tasting (mosaic)

Our next yarn tasting will be Friday, November 14th, 2008, from 7:30-9:30 PM, and we will be featuring yarns from Prism! $5 covers drinks and snacks; we are limited to 15 people, so please sign up in advance. You can either swing by the shop or give us a call and we'll ring you up over the phone.

Hope you can make it!

Color Gradated Shell

Speaking of fabulous finished objects, another one of our customers has recently finished a great top in Prism yarns--

Fabulous Prism top

It's called the Color Gradated Shell (the pattern also has an optional jacket to go with) and the colorway she used was Brass. The pattern is from Book 43: Spirited Spring. Thanks, Judy, for showing off your work in our shop!

Perhaps this new base yarn is spun by Unicorns...!

Prism has a new base yarn for their sock yarn, Saki , and I think it may perhaps be spun by Unicorns, from cloudstuff.

Prism Saki

Of course you can't feel the softness of the yarn with this photo, but you can get a good idea of the parrot colorway! And trust me when I tell you... this new base yarn is fantastic. If you've been steering away from Saki because you had heard the base yarn is too rough, you may want to swing by and feel this up. You won't regret it!

Introducting... Prism Andee!

Everyone say hello, Andee... "hello Andee!"

Prism Andee is a new-to-us yarn that we're happy to introduce (here are our introductory colors). Andee is a 50% Wool/50% Alpaca that has a put-up of 114 yards (2 ounces) and the suggested gauge is 4 1/2 sts/inch on a US #7. It retails for $15/skein. It is available in all of Prism's hand-dyed colors, as well as the sandwashed solids (pictured above) so please let us know if there is a colorway that you're in love with.

From the Prism website:
Andee is a lovely, classic plied twist of intimately blended alpaca and wool. The wool provides memory and bounce, and the alpaca lends a beautiful sheen. The knitted fabric combines the best of both worlds: a firm hand that shows color work and stitch definition well, but has a silky softness from the alpaca.

We haven't had time to work any of it up yet, but that's mostly because all we want to do is curl up with it and have a nice snuggle on the couch, it is just that soft!

On the gravitational pull of cuteness

Teh cute! TEH! CUTE!

And that should be enough, right? Should I even tell you about this? Because I think the cuteness factor alone is enough to make you want to pick it up and snuggle it.

One of our fabulous customers (I know, that narrows it down, right?) knit this up in about four days. It's a kit from Prism based on a pattern in the new Stuff 6 book. The kit retails for $130 (buying the items individually could run up to $150), and contains a full skein of Cool, Wild, or Neat Stuff in the color of your choice, a skein of Angora, the pattern, and a handy carrying case for working on the project. You'll have to provide your own stuffing and eyes, but the cuteness level seems to be inherent in the project.

Two new Prism colorways

Just a quick note to let you see two new colorways just in from Prism - "Plum Dandy" in Neat Stuff, and "Portofino" in Wild Stuff.

Two new Prism colorways

Right now we just have one half-sized skein (150 yards) of each, but if you want more, or a full sized skein (300 yards), please drop us a line! These aren't on our shop website, but will be next week when we launch the new site!

The new Prism book has arrived!

Have you seen the new Prism pattern book, Spirited Spring? A couple of the patterns use Prism's new Tencel Tape yarn, and there's a skirt pattern (My personal favorite), jackets, vest, and tops a la Prism. We received copies of the new pattern book today, along with a selection of Stuff yarn. Don't forget that you can simply email us with your Prism special orders and we'll get you what you need as quickly as possible!

Friday Five: Five silk blends we carry

Are you as into silk as we are? Then you might want to keep an eye out for these fine fibers next time you stop by (or are perusing our online shop).

Cherry Tree Hill Orenburg Lace – This is a handspun (on a drop spindle) yarn that is 80% Kidd Mohair and 20% Silk. As you can tell by the name, it’s a lace yarn; it comes in hanks of 600 yards, and the mohair gives it just the tiniest bit of ariness. Lovely!

Lorna’s Laces Lion and Lamb – This is a medium-weight, 50% Silk/50% Wool yarn. It comes in hanks of 205 yards, and knits up on a US size 8 needle (or crochets up with an “H”… is “crochet’s up” a real term, or did I just make that up…?!). We love, love, love this yarn. Are you familiar with the other Jenna Wilson pattern, Eris? Because I am so thinking that it would be luscious in Lion and Lamb…

Prism Indulgence – 68% Silk, 15% Wool, 12% Kid Mohair, and 5% Nylon… when you add “hand dyed” into the mix, it really just doesn’t get much better than that. We have a free pattern in the shop for a great open scarf that only takes one skein of this, which is perfect for the warm weather we seem to be being subjected to here in Florida (this week).

Tilli Tomas Voile de la Mer – 70% Silk, 30% Seacell (a natural Kelp fiber). This is a very fine yarn; 290 yards in a 50 gram ball, but you can use anything from a #5 to a #7 to work with it. We have to admit we haven’t actually worked anything up with it yet, other than a swatch… but that might be because we just carry it around and pet it all day long.

Twisted Sisters Petite Voodoo (for some reason this isn't showing up on our website, I'll add "fixing that" to my endless list... sorry!) – This is another 50% Silk/50% Wool yarn, but it looks *nothing* like the Lion and Lamb. It’s a much thinner yarn, half the weight of a skein of L&L but almost the same yardage. This would be perfect for lacy shawls when you want beauty and drape, or even a tank top if you really wanted to spoil yourself with softness.

Let's talk about some stuff

Stuff!

Hahaha! I slay me! Get it? Prism "Stuff" yarns? Let's talk about some "Stuff"? Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week. Please try the veal.

No, but seriously. We're slowly working on building up our base of the "Stuff" yarns; Cool Stuff, Light Stuff, Neat Stuff, and Wild Stuff. While we don't have everything, we have twice as much as we had a few weeks ago-- and we order a little more every week. This week I want to especially point out two new colors, Gelato (Light Stuff) and Freesia (Cool Stuff). We didn't order a lot - just testing the waters - but can easily get more if a color strikes your fancy and you want more than what we have right now.

I really want to thank the customers who are loyal Prism lovers; I've had many a back-and-forth, wonderful email discussion with a couple of you and I very much appreciate your insight, advice, and most of all, the time you take out of your day to talk with us!

Please keep letting us know what you like in the Prism line; we've only been special ordering once a week for two or three weeks now but the results have been fantastic. Thanks, y'all!
