FO: Zanzibar in Red

Zanzibar in Red

Yarn: Malabrigo Sock in "Ravelry Red"
Needles: US 1
Pattern: Zanzibar by Cookie A.

This pattern was crazy easier than it looked; however, if I were to do it again I would make the top a bit longer and throw in some extra ribbing that would decrease into nothing before turning the heel.

Easter has come early...

We got a small Malabrigo shipment - only lace yarns. But what gorgeous colors of lace yarn they are!

Mmmmm, Malabrigo!

That photo just makes you want to roll in it, doesn't it?!

We got two boxes from Malabrigo last week - goodies inside included Sock, Worsted, and Lace yarns. They're all going pretty quickly, as Malabrigo tends to do - so get what you want before somebody else does!

More Mmmmmalabrigo!

If you've already been in this weekend, you know that we got in a huge shipment of Malabrigo; primarily worsted and Silky Merino, but also a handful of sock! Some are restocks, and some are colorways new to us - but y’all better get down here PRONTO because this stuff is going fast!

How does Malabrigo Sock yarn knit up, anyway?

Beautifully!

Conwy

(please ignore the cat hair on my toes)

I knit these socks over the Thanksgiving holiday, and wanted to wear them a few times before giving them an official review. Why? Because the Malabrigo Sock yarn looks beautiful, feels softer than the law should allow, and the colors are rich and deep. It seemed almost too good to be true! Fortunately, the finished object has held up to my original glee. I've washed the socks five or six times by now, by putting them in a lingerie bag and washing in the washer on warm (laying flat to dry) and they are just as soft and just as smooshy as they were when I finished knitting them. They do seem a bit denser around the heel when I've worn them all day, but the yarn has not felted at all, and looks just like new when I take them out of the wash.

New yarn: Malabrigo and Jade Sapphire

The new Malabrigo sock yarn is up on our website!

We also are working on Jade Sapphire; we have both the Lacey Lamb and the Silk Cashmere listed, but photos will take another 24-48 hours.

Thanks for your patience, and your excitement over our new lovelies!

Malabrigo Sock Yarn is on the shelf!

... but probably not for long!

We got in the following 17 colors:

Alcaucil
Archangel
Black
Chocolate Amargo
Cordovan
Cote D Azure
Impressionist Sky
Indiecita
Lettuce
Natural
Ochre
Solis
Stonechat
Terracota
Tiziano Red
Velvet Grape
Violeta Africa

And since it's going to take us a day or two to get it up on the website, we thought it faster to get photos up on Flickr so at least you could see the colors. You can check them out here.

Oh! You might want details-- 440 yards, 3.5 ounces, and while it doesn't say on the label we're eyeing it as needing about a US 1 (it's mighty skinny yarn). Our price is $19.00. Don't knit socks? This is going to be excellent for shawls!

We're open until 7:00 tonight! Just sayin'!

If this isn't just the cutest thing...!

One thing that we really love is when people bring things into the shop to show off after they're done knitting or crocheting. Ingrid, who tries to tell me she's a new knitter*, works just a few doors down (at Wild Birds Unlimited) and today she brought in something she finished over the weekend... the cutest little felted backpack EVER!

Cutest felted backpack ever (front)

Cutest felted backpack ever (back)

Her mother sent her this pattern, and she knitted it out of Malabrigo. Try to resist the cuteness... just try!

*For a new knitter, she's highly intuitive and had no problems modifying this pattern for an adult sized backpack into one that would fit her young daughter. So if you think you're "too new" to try something this brave, take heart! Just because you're new doesn't mean you can't be adventurous!

Friday Five: Five photos of Karen's Clapotis

Our lovely friend Karen - who lives across the pond - sent us the absolutely stunning and gorgeous Clapotis that she has knitted up, to show off in the shop for a few months. What did she want in return? Not fame, not fortune (though she is a wonderful, lovely person and deserves both); but all she requested in return are photos. So for today's Friday five, we give you... five photos of this luscious wrap!
