The Hanks Question of the Week

Solids? Variegated? Self-striping? Semi-solid? Hand-painted? What sorts of colorways do you prefer to work with?

For lace and sweaters, I prefer semi-solids or solids. For socks, anything goes! I love seeing how handpainted yarns will pool, and watching the color changes on self-stripping yarn makes the project go by all the quicker!

You know... I've been thinking about this all day, and... I just like yarn! I like solids for things with cables; variegated and semi-solids for things with slight patterns where you'll still be able to see the pattern *and* the yarn; self-striping for simple stockinette socks. I guess it just boils down to me liking everything!

I think part of the fun of each project is trying to visualize which yarn suits the design. (And then being surprised by what you actually get!) I agree with Caitlin - with socks anything goes. For everything else, I like having choices.

I don't think about it much. I like pretty colors and mostly knit socks. So, variegated/hand-painted/other? Will always be the first thing I pick.

Though, the squishable pinks in the shop are still calling to me... :D
