The Discussion of the Month

There's been a lot of talk lately about fiction that has yarn in it, be it set in a yarn store or just one of the characters knits or crochets. Tell us if you've read a book like that, and what you thought of it!

I just finished THE FRIDAY NIGHT KNITTING CLUB by Kate Jacobs. I'm not usually into knitting fiction, but this was a good book. Characters were interesting and well developed outside of their knitting interests. But there was enough knitting project talk for those interested in that, too.

YA fiction series, Chicks with Sticks - set in Chicago! It's fun, I love those girls (and errr I learned a lot by reading these, lol.)

The Knitting Circle - excellent, though a little "sad" in places. Loved it.

I've only read two. One was a Debbie Macomber book and... I hesitate to admit this because I may have to hand in my knitting card... but I didn't really like it that much. PLEASE keep in mind, though, that I have very rarely read anything outside of the Science Fiction genre, other than Horror and Mystery. So I spent the first half of the book wondering who was going to be murdered and/or when the aliens or zombies were going to show up. When I realized that ... uhm... it was just about people getting along (or in some cases, not getting along) I kind of felt like... "but, this is my life! Every day! I wanted zombies! Or at least a good murder!". So, you know, your mileage may vary.

But then my mom (who is a librarian) sent me a knitting mystery - "Death by Cashmere". That, I liked! Intrigue! Yarn stores! Dead bodies! That book was more up my alley.

The Eragon series has a knitting witch. Apparently the author's sister knits and spins.
