The December sock club yarn is ready!
My deep apologies for being about a week behind on this (I've asked Sharon to smack me the next time I decide I want to do a complicated dye job the same week that I also want to put the class schedule together, especially if I want to do all of that between major holidays...) but the December sock club yarn is ready. If you are out of town, your yarn has been mailed to you, and I think the person who has to wait the longest (depending on the Royal Post) should get hers by the Friday or Saturday after Christmas. The in-town people have been notified via Ravelry that the yarn is ready for them to pick up.
Here is a picture of the undyed yarn (not black & white this time! Just... white!). This month’s selection is a new base for us; a 65% merino/35% bamboo yarn. We hope you like it! I've already started knitting with mine, and as soon as I hear from everyone that they've gotten theirs, I'll post a picture of the socks-in-progress.

Class: Introduction to Dyeing Techniques
January 10 & 17, 2009 (Saturdays)
10:30 AM – 1:30 PM | $70 | Materials Included
Curious about what it takes to dye your own yarn? Come find out!
Class members will get approximately 250 yards of a worsted weight yarn which will be split up in three ways and dyed.
Week one: learn a little bit about color theory, how to get the color you want, kettle dye one skein of yarn, and hand-paint a second skein of yarn. There will be at-home work involved for your hand-painting!
Week two: go over your at-home results and ask questions about the two skeins dyed in the previous week, and kettle dye the third skein using what you’ve learned in the last two weeks.
Classes do fill up early; so please reserve your space in the class by paying in advance as it is unlikely we will be able to accommodate walk-ins. Payment is required within 7 days of signing up for the class or within one week before the class begins (whichever comes first). All classes limited to five people unless otherwise stated. A minimum of 2 students is required for most classes to take place. If the minimum for a class is not reached, we will cancel or reschedule the class and a full refund will be given.

Class: 2009 Afghan - The January Square
Jan. 10, 2009 (Saturday)
2-5 PM | $30 | Materials Included
During 2009 we will be making an afghan. While the patterns will always be free (like the 2008 scarf patterns), we will be offering workshops for those that need a little jump-start. Classes will give you dedicated class time and instruction, a set of needles, and appropriate yarn for the project.
The January Square is a simple basketweave pattern that anyone familiar with casting on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, and binding off can do.
During the class we will get you started on the January square. We will provide needles and the appropriate weight yarn for the afghan (all squares will call for a worsted weight yarn that gets between 4-5 sts/inch on a US 7-9 needle), get you cast on and the first pattern repeat accomplished.
This class would not be good for someone who has never knit before, but if you can at least cast on and do the knit stitch, and are motivated to learn how to purl, this class is for you!

Discussion of the Month
Last month we talked about crocheting and knitting for pets (not too many of you do that!)... this month, let's talk about baby/kid/toddler projects! Do you knit for little people? How did the project turn out? Did you knock out a hat-and-booties set in a day? Or did you plan on making that newborn afghan.... and it turned into a fifth-birthday present?
In case you missed the Uptown Art Hop...
... you missed a fantastic event!
1. Down the walkway, 2. Fun times in the yarn shop!, 3. Fun times in the yarn shop!, 4. Sheep Xing (watch out for frogs), 5. Fun times in the yarn shop!, 6. Watching the Spinning class, 7. Fun times in the yarn shop!, 8. Delicious Sweetwater coffee, 9. Hop on down to the yarn shop!
Our shop was filled with spinners, knitters, and crocheters - everyone kept warm with the wonderful coffee from Sweetwater - and the whole plaza was filled with people admiring, appreciating, and enjoying the many arts and crafts that were on display. Quite a number of fiber enthusiasts who had never been in our store were surprised and pleased to find out we were here (welcome to the family, y'all!). Overall the event was a resounding success, and we look forward to having another!
