The Hanks Question of the Week

When you buy tools (crochet hooks and knitting needles) what is most important to you? Price? Brand name (Addi, ChiaGoo, Clover)? What the tool is made from (bamboo, aluminum, rosewood)? Or do you buy whatever you need, from whatever is available, without too much worry?

When it comes to crochet hooks, its mostly about the price, but it also depends on where I happen to be and what I happen to need at the moment..Like when I lost my beading hook, I just bought one at the closest store.

For knitting needles, its the brand and the material. I LOVE addi turbo lace needles in aluminum. The joins are lovely, the needles nice and pointy and slick.

First and foremost if it is pink then it will purchased (hint, hint to Sharon and Lorena). Then after that we must consider the shade of pink, bright, dazzling, dark, glittery, baby, soft, shocking, outrageous, extreme not in this order. Then we move on to the cute factor and if it is in stock. Out stock items are always a must have, after all I am a woman and I always want what I cannot have. The last thing would be price. You can go anywhere to buy the ordinary, but outrageously pink and cute is… priceless.

I am really picky about my knitting needles and I rarely knit with anything except Addi Turbos, or Lantern Moon DPNs for socks.

Since other brands that I have tried did not compare, I don't even try anything else anymore. If I were to try something else, I would select it based on materials.

I am an Ebony snob. If it comes in Ebony, I want it! You will get my Ebony Destiny Circulars out of my cold dead fingers. Oh, how I wish they came in small sizes, so I could do socks on Ebony circulars!

I've gotten to the point where most of my projects end up on circulars, so Addi Turbos are my friends. I like the lace Addis for socks because they are nice and pointy, and the cord is flexible. I don't use straights very often, but when I do I definitely prefer Lantern Moon rosewood or ebony.

Addi turbo needles are the best. I have a set of Denise interchangeable needles and they are ok but for serious projects addi's are the way to go.

I love Addi Turbo lace for just about anything, although occasionally I need something with needles that are not quite so slippery. I just discovered Clover Brand FLEX needles. The comfort of a circular but two separate pieces. Very handy. My very-most-favorite needles were a beautiful hand-painted pair I got years ago from Peace Fleece. But the dog ate one. I still use the leftover one for holding stitches. Thereal question is... Does EVERYONE have 5 32" size 8 needles or is it just me?

I'm all about aesthetics. The tool has to look good and feel nice in my hand(s). I don’t care about brand, cost, etc.

Needles: bamboo or wood circs.

Hooks: metal for the speed, but I'd be hard-pressed to turn up a pretty wood one.

Oh, and if I could buy all my tools in various shades of green, that would send me into perpetual joygasms.
