The Hanks Question of the Week

Is there anything that you've taken on (a type of spinning fiber, a particular pattern) that you wanted to do so badly that you could almost taste it, but it just fought you every step of the way? Maybe you struggled and struggled with it for weeks or even months... and yet, it defeated you in the end?

This question is so timely for me. I'm ready to pull my hair out over the sweater I've been working on, it seems like years, and it's still defeating me.

At this point I don't know if I'll ever finish it as it hold no allure for me. I'm hoping that one of these days a light will go on when I'm looking at the pattern and I'll say "Oh yes, that's how it's done - it's just a simple step."

I'd like to try and finish it before the yarn turns to dust.

Working intarsia in mercerized cotton. I'm lookin' at you, Hot Tamale! I'm just glad the intarsia that defeated me was at the beginning of the pattern instead of at the end. And I *will* make that skirt one day! Just not today.

Well, it's not so much the pattern, but the combination of yarn and pattern...my Tubey...alas, I started it on an OMGWTFBBQ!!1! yarn high after Rhinebeck 2006, and now that I've been knitting a while and know what works for me...I totally shouldn't have used a scritchy yarn for something I can't wear a t-shirt under (scoopy neck). I was over halfway done, too. I haven't frogged it yet - just...haven't touched it in over a year. I has a sad...
