The Hanks Question of the Week

Do you have any allergies (to wool, to mohair, etc) that dictate what you can or can't craft with? How do you work around that? Do you find it difficult?

Thank goodness my allergies are food related; as long as I don't want to knit something out of catfish or eggs, I am golden! I do try to be respectful of my friends allergies or leanings, be they allergic to wool or vegan. The only time I find it difficult to find work-arounds are when what I want to knit doesn't have a very good alternative. For instance, it's hard to knit socks out of 100% cotton, because it doesn't have any memory to it like wool does.

Mohair: the bane of my existence. I love the way it looks, but it makes my skin all puffy and red. I had to give away a bunch of it, unspun, unknitted, and knitted up. But in the end it was all good, as I got cool stuff in return.

And you know I was thinking of you when I wrote that question-- specifically, that one time I was all "OMG! DROP THAT! IT HAS MOHAIR!" and your nose was red within seconds. Yikes!

Angora (rabit) is my enemy. No rodents (rabbits or other kind) for me.

There are such pretty Angora yarns. I have pleanty of food allergies so thank goodness angora is the only natural fiber.
